Landscape vs portrait uploads

Hello there,

Lets say I set two custom add_image_tags() in my functions.php file one for landscape and the other for portrait mode.

Is there an option to prevent WordPress from adding 25 different versions to my upload folder?
I mean if I upload a huge landscape img that need to get cropped to the new custom landscape dimensions I don’t want WordPress to create also a portrait version of this image while I never gonna use it on my site.

Long story short is there an option to let WordPress check if an image is portrait or landscape and based on that crop it to one of my custom add_image_tags?
