• In the german translation there are quite a few things I would like to improve and add. I don’t care much about backend language and missing translations in the backend. But e.g. frontend error messages like “The %s field is empty” when not having checked the privacy policy checkbox resulting in “The Datenschutzerkl?rung field is empty” – being English and also referring to a checkbox not checked and not a field being empty I consider too irritating for the users to leave it that way.

I tried many things like reversing the .mo to a .po and editing as well as hardcoding the string in the frontend-function, but it did not work, even though I deactivated the caching etc. Also I tried an older suggestion of yours to put a filter in the theme’s function.php but that does not help either – since there is a placeholder in that string I suppose.

To get to the point: is there a straighforward and safe way to work on translations in general and esp. those with variables like the error-message mentioned? I don’t mind editing the files, but I would prefer a way surviving updates…

Hi voom, I understand your point. Thanks for your remarks.
The plugin is using “The %s field is empty” because this string is already used for other form fields and translated in most languages. Maybe I can use a better message, but it’s a quick way to have a good message already existing.

About how to contribute with translations, you can do it in 2 ways.

    1) You can add translations starting from .po file here: https://github.com/groucho75/alo-easymail/tree/master/languages
If you have a github account you can fork that repository and submit you translations. Otherwise you can download from there, edit the files with poeditor and send them to me, and I’ll include them in plugin.

    2) You can enter the translation project of the plugin, here the German page: https://translate.www.ads-software.com/locale/de/default/wp-plugins/alo-easymail
You can suggest your translations there. If you like I can propose you as German editor, so you can approve translations. (An editor is needed to approve translations). Once a translation reaches 95%, a language pack will be generated and I can remove the language file from plugin because it will be downloaded automatically from translate.www.ads-software.com on every update.

Let me know your feedback. Thanks again.

Thanks, I will have a look and will share whatever I translate.

About the “The %s field is empty” – it seems it is not translated to german, and I wonder how I can add a translation. I would use something like “%s muss ausgefüllt sein” because that would cover almost any case. I could not even properly re-translate that to English ??

Could the Privacy-Opt-In Checkbox have it’s own message? “Sie müssen in die Datenverarbeitung einwilligen” or something like that…

I downloaded the .po file from Github (DE_formal) opened it in Poedit, changed and added some translations, saved as .mo, put it into the plugin’s /language – folder and emptied all caches. But the changes do not appear in the admin panel or elsewhere. Is there sth. else I need to do to make this work?

Hi voom, did you set the “Deutsch (Sie)” language in Settings > General? I think that this language is the selection for “de_DE_formal”.
    I hope it helps.

Hi voom, could you please tell me if you found a way to fix the translation of the privacy policy checkbox? I am facing the same problem.

    Best Regards,
    Daniel

No I did not, because that text is not part of the language file. With the language files I could improve some translations, but could noch reach that one. If there is a way it is not included in my current WordPress skillset ??

    well, thanks anyway ??
