    Hi,

A friend has a site that was originally created in English (default language), with French as a secondary language. Now he wants to make French the default language -at least with regards to being selected by default and with regards to the slug not showing as part of the URL for it (and showing for English).

My understanding is that changing the default language is not possible without having to recreate all the translations, correct?

If so, how easy would it be to adjust the code so that it assumes/adds the language slug in the URL only for the default language and not for the translated language?

    Any suggestions/workarounds greatly appreciated

    Thanks!

  • Hello,

You can easily change the default language from the general tab.

    Step 1:
go to Settings -> TranslatePress and set the Use subdirectory for default language option to Yes.

    Step 2:
Using drag and drop, drag the language you want to be the default one to the top.

This only change the secondary language as the first one that the user will see. The rest will be the same.

    Kind regards,

Thanks, I am aware of that, however it looks like this forces the language string as part of the URL for all languages (i.e. example.com/fr/). What I meant was have the French translation (which is not the default language) not show up as part of the URL.

Currently this is only possible for the default language, correct?

    Hello,

Yes, that is correct. to change the priority you need to have subdirectory active.

    Cheers,
