On our homepage, we recently implemented SG Optimizer’s features for image compression and conversation to webp format. After letting it run to compress all my images, I ran a GTMetrix scan and the largest, animated GIF image on the page (~1.1MB) is still being loaded instead of the webp version (https://www.midstory.org/wp-content/uploads/2022/06/midwest-cover.gif). Does SG Optimizer support conversion of animated GIFs to webp format?

The page I need help with: [log in to see the link]

    Hello @jdo300 ,

Thank you for your post. The feature for .webp image conversion in SiteGround Optimizer’s plugin works for images which do not exceed 500 KBytes in size. The reason behind this is all related to website optimization: a well optimized site should keep all its images under 500 (I would even say under 100) Kbytes in all cases. Images which exceed 500 Kbytes, usually need to be in high quality by design and are therefore not included in the conversion process. Resize your GIFs under 500 Kbytes and try their conversion again.
