Large Featured Image used on FB Share

Have a look at “Q6. How does NGFB Open Graph+ find images for the Open Graph meta tags?” from the FAQ.

Depending on the resolution of the image in the Open Graph meta tags, and the platform used to access Facebook (desktop, retina display, ipad, etc.), Facebook will display different image sizes.

Have a look at the “?” info next to the Image Dimensions option. Larger images are best if you want Facebook to display larger previews on certain platforms.

Yes, I read that part of the FAQ. Featured image is down on the list.

That’s why I was asking how do I make featured image always be the one that is shared?

We are using large images as our feature. Look at this example:

It’s 570×400.

So how do I make sure it uses that image and a large version of it?

I just tried to share that page again on FB.

The image that FB picks isn’t even on my site!

Where would it get that from?

If a featured image is present, it will be shared, provided the number of images to include permits it. If you have other illegible images attached/included in your post, then these will be added as well, provided the number of images to include permits it.

FYI – from the Other Notes section:

“If you generally have a featured image for your posts and pages, you may set the “Maximum Number of Images” to “1”. This will prevent the plugin from searching your content for additional images (the featured image counts as “1” and the plugin will stop there).”

As for “making sure Facebook uses it” — that is beyond anyone’s control, except Facebook themselves. Use the Facebook debugger, and make sure you’re happy with the results, and you’re good to go. ??

Have you submitted that page to the Facebook debugger? Look under the Validation Tools tab on the Post/Page entry page.

The debuggers doesn’t show anything about the image??

Maybe I’m not asking right.

I’ve seen some posts on facebook be a larger image with the story underneath it – not next to it as in most cases.

And image is linked to the story.

How do I set that up?

Is that something your plugin does or is outside of it?

Facebook debugger shows an error for the page you mentioned above.

You’ll have to fix that before I can help w any image related issues on that page.

The large image format you are referring to is an add. See “Page post photo ad” from https://www.facebook-studio.com/fbassets/resource/82/UpdatedAdsandSponsoredStoriesGuideasofSept102013.pdf, mentioned in the article you provided.

If you want Facebook to use larger image sizes, then provide larger images. Try 1200×630 cropped, for example. Don’t forget to regen existing images and/or check the WP Auto-Resize option.

Yes, it is working for me now.

We aren’t using this plugin. But made sure our images were the right size.
