Last automatic update prevents me from entering dashboard

    Hi,

    I’ve just had an automatic (grmbl) WordPress update happen to my site and now I can’t access it anymore. Whenever I try to go to the dashboard it says “No Update Required. Your WordPress database is already up-to-date!” and when I then click the “continue” button, it just takes me to the homepage again.

    What the?

    Are you able to log out when you get the “No Update Required” screen? I’m thinking you can’t, but I don’t exactly remember that screen.

    If you can’t, then please try accessing your site admin through either a different browser or opening an “Incognito” window (Chrome) or “Private” window (Firefox or Safari.)

    Let me know if this gets you in.

    Hey Paul,

    The problem just got fixed. Apparently it had something to do with database caching by my host SiteGround. I’ve noticed people with other hosts have had the same problem, but not everyone.

    I’ll close this now.

    I am having the same problem. Incognito Chrome window didn’t help. Any other suggestions?

    Who is your web host?

    This problem often has to do with backend caching, especially if your host is using memcache.

    Are you using any caching plugins like WP Super Cache, W3Total Cache, etc?

    We are using DreamPress on DreamHost. We are VERY new to this and currently are only using WordPress for our WooCommerce store. I don’t know how to even find out about caching. Any suggestions? Thank you!

    I think you’ll get the fastest resolution by contacting DreamHost. Different hosts set up caching differently, so there’s not much more I can do. The way things like DreamPress work, it’s very likely you’re having an issue like the original poster. If nothing else, it will probably resolve itself in a few hours.

    Same problem here, but have never had an issue with WordPress updates and caching before. What was wrong with this one? And what’s the exact resolution?

    It’s not necessarily the host, but any type of caching, including that from a plugin.

    I went into my FTP > wp-content folder and found 2 files – advanced-cache.php and object-cache.php. They are generated by my W3TC plugin. I deleted them and that fixed the problem.
