• I am a beginner blogger with GeneratePress and I have encountered what looks like a weird behavior to me.

At the end of my posts, I’m adding an emoji followed by link that points to the next post my visitors might be interested in after reading the current post. Sometime, I even add 2 or 3 of such recommendations.

I’m using a pointing index since I think it psychologically entices people to click and make the CTA more effective.

    Here is an example here.

Now, what happens is this part of my content seems to be recognize as a new comment.

    Questions:
    1. Is this normal, knowing that no comment appears on my page even if I approve the new comment?
    2. How can I prevent this while keeping my emoji?

The page I need help with: [log in to see the link]

  • Hi there,

that is not something the theme would do or even be involved with. Content and Comments are handled by WordPress.
But it definitely does not look like normal WP behaviour.
Temporarily disable all other plugins to check for a conflict.

If the issue persists you may want to ask in the general WordPress support forum

@masterhealerwp Do not create a topic about a topic again. This is the right place to ask and not Everything else WordPress. I have archived your new topic.

    @jdembowski ok, thanks.

I want to be sure I understand since I’m not a native English speaker: The right place to ask is right HERE, correct? If so, there is nothing else I should do or repost?

Actually, @diggeddy suggested I Should post the issue on WordPress support forum, hence my topic about a topic. Sorry for that.

@jdembowski – the issue the user is having is related to the WordPress Comments auto populating with content from the post content. There is nothing in the Theme that would cause that. Which is why i suggested a topic is raised in the wider support forums where an answer may be found.

@masterhealerwp Your issue sounds like a pingback to me.

If you want to disable the feature completely, kindly go to SETTINGS => DISCUSSIONS and turn off these two items:

    — Attempt to notify any blogs linked to from the post
    — Allow link notifications from other blogs (pingbacks and trackbacks) on new posts

But if you want to allow pingbacks and trackbacks to/from other sites, you can leave these settings ON and install the No Self-ping plugin to disable pingbacks from your own website (ie self-pings) only:

    No Self-ping plugin: https://www.ads-software.com/plugins/no-self-ping/

    Good luck!

    Hello @gappiah

Thanks. IT sounds a bit like Chinese to me.

“Allow pingbacks and trackbacks to/from other site”: What is the drawback of turning this off?

    1. If I want to do affiliation with sites likes Amazon or others, will it be an issue if I turn this off?

    2. I f I keep it on, what should I do then with the “Comments” since each time I publish a new post, I have this message coming up?

    Thanks again for your support.

Thanks. IT sounds a bit like Chinese to me.

That’s probably because you didn’t follow the link to read the official support article on pingbacks and trackbacks which I provided! That article explains these two terms and what purpose they serve — with examples!

    1. If I want to do affiliation with sites likes Amazon or others, will it be an issue if I turn this off?

This should have no effect, as affiliate links will not support or have anything to do with trackbacks.

    2. I f I keep it on, what should I do then with the “Comments” since each time I publish a new post, I have this message coming up?

The plugin I recommended will prevent the creation of these “comments” whenever you link to your own post. Again, the plugin’s page, which I linked to above, explains in simple terms what it does.
