The last update of WooCommerce (from version 6.4.1 to 6.5.1) cause a catastrophic failure and my entire site is down. It’s going to take Bluehost 24-48 hours to restore (hopefully) my site. I can’t even log in to WordPress to restore any backups. There should be a way to install certain version numbers of plugins. It can’t be that I’m out of luck until WooCommerce fixes the plugin!

  • Hi @hautecreations,

In this case, it is possible there was a plugin on the site that conflicted with WooCommerce when it is updating. Since it was a ‘big’ release (going from 4 to 5) it is always best to have a staging site and update the plugin there to make sure everything works.

When the site comes back up, have BlueHost make an immediate backup and test updating, and see if they can get a staging/test site for you for future testing to make sure everything works – that way the site is not risked during updates.

Let us know if there is something we can do in the meantime!

Actually, the update was to 6.5.0. I just learned that they are putting a pause on this roll out because of issues. Luckily, WordPress sent me the last good version of WooCommerce to install. I am definitely going to ask BlueHost to get me a staging/test site as you suggested. This has been a nightmare.

No Worry! Hopefully, you will get your site restored soon.
Once you have the site back please continue testing on a staging site as Mike suggested before.
