This new season is not appearing in the rss feed (so also not on itunes etc).

We have always used categories to set the seasons, but now I see this message on that page:

“A new Podcast will create an entirely new Podcast Feed.
Only do this if you want to have multiple shows within your WordPress site.
If you just want to organize episodes within the same feed we suggest using Tags.”

So now I have to remove all podcasts form their categories and use tags instead?

Main feed with all previous seasons: https://inclusivedesigners.com/feed/podcast/

    Season 4 feed: https://inclusivedesigners.com/feed/podcast/season-4/

The page I need help with: [log in to see the link]

    Hello @ohliza!

Using tags is just a suggestion, you still can use categories as you did it before.

This new season is not appearing in the rss feed (so also not on itunes etc).

Do you mean Season 4? If yes, I do see it in your main podcast – https://inclusivedesigners.com/feed/podcast/ :

Creating the Best IDEA: Matteo Zallio’s Tools for ‘Inclusion, Diversity, Equity & Accessibility’ (Season 4, Episode 1)

    Best regards,

I can see there are no episodes in the “Season 4” RSS feed (https://inclusivedesigners.com/feed/podcast/season-4/). To show the episode there, just mark it as “Season 4” Podcast.

I just removed all the podcasts categories from all and that added it. It did not appear until I did that.

Hm, that’s strange behavior, thank you for reporting that. Did it work before? If yes, when did you notice the problem? And did it work with the season 3 RSS feed?

By the way, I just checked “Season 4” and “Season 3” RSS feeds, and don’t see any episodes there. Have you restored the podcast categories after removing them?

    It worked before.

The change happened sometime between the end of S3 (May 2022) and beginning of S4 (a few days ago), I became aware of it yesterday when my client asked why the latest episode hadn’t been added to itunes etc. I determined that was because it was not added to the rss feed.

I killed the season categories altogether, that’s why those feeds no longer exist.

That message of “A new Podcast will create an entirely new Podcast Feed.
Only do this if you want to have multiple shows within your WordPress site.
If you just want to organize episodes within the same feed we suggest using Tags.” is new to me – if that had been there originally I wouldn’t have made categories int the first place.

We added the message “A new Podcast..” more then year ago, and it’s just an information text, we didn’t change any behavior there.

Regarding categories – do you use the post post type for your episodes? Asking because the default podcast post type doesn’t have a category taxonomy.

@ohliza Did you mean you were previously using a series for your different seasons? (Which is now considered Podcasts) If so, that notice that you mentioned has always been on that page, even when we called it a Series.

With that said, new series (podcasts) are automatically excluded from the default RSS feed. This help doc explains how to include other series’ (podcasts) episodes in the default SSP RSS feed.

Now, I do see that you’ve moved all of the episodes out of any series (unassigned them) so they’re all included in the RSS feed now.

I hope I was able to shed some light on things but if you experience any further trouble, please let us know.

    Thanks!
