• I need help – I uploaded 2.5 and then 2.5.1 several days later. Had some issues with probably 20 different error messages in my admin panel so got rid of all plug-ins. That solved a few problems.

Warning: main(admin.php) [function.main]: failed to open stream: No such file or directory in /homepages/21/d116687626/htdocs/wp-includes/media.php on line 3

Fatal error: main() [function.require]: Failed opening required ‘admin.php’ (include_path=’.:/usr/lib/php’) in /homepages/21/d116687626/htdocs/wp-includes/media.php on line 3

I’ve re-uploaded and installed the admin file and my blog will not open. I wonder if it’s a virus…if it is, I’m not sure how to get rid of it.

I did backup before doing all of this (before 2.5.0). I don’t want to go back if it’s not necessary.

    Thanks,

    Danielle

  • When this happens it’s usually the result of corrupted file transfers. Do this:

    1. Login to WP and disable all your plugins (or just temporarily rename the plugins folder so WP cannot find it and thinks there are no plugins, which is what we want it to think).

    2. Delete the following two folders:
    /wp-includes
    /wp-admin

    3. In your WP root, delete all files with a *.php extension EXCEPT WP-CONFIG.PHP. If you are upgrading WP needs that file.

    4. Also, in your WP root, DO NOT DELETE the .htaccess file.

    5. Now upload the latest WP from your hard drive.

    6. Type your path to WP along with /wp-admin/upgrade.php

For example, if your WP site is at:
    https://www.mycooldomain.com/blog/

    You would type: https://www.mycooldomain.com/blog/wp-admin/upgrade.php

You should now be upgraded. ??

Believe me I used to try the “fast and dirty” way, but because I would get those such error messages, I finally learned to go ahead and delete the files off the server entirely and that way I knew I had good copies of the latest install files being uploaded.

Hi Joni – OK – I did what you said which at least got my blog up and running again.

The error messages below have not gone away – they are at the top of my blog. I’ve tried deleting and uploading new downloads of these files several times and don’t know how to fix them.

    Here they are:

Notice: Undefined index: cat in /homepages/21/d116687626/htdocs/wp-includes/query.php on line 522

Notice: Undefined property: args in /homepages/21/d116687626/htdocs/wp-includes/taxonomy.php on line 1061

Notice: Undefined index: port in /homepages/21/d116687626/htdocs/wp-includes/canonical.php on line 181

Notice: Undefined index: query in /homepages/21/d116687626/htdocs/wp-includes/canonical.php on line 181

There are also other error messages in my admin panel in the comment section and at the top…any advice would be so wonderful. Thank you so much for your help already.

    Thanks,

    Danielle

    Yeah, worked for me!
