Latest update caused some issues. Known feature?

Today I updated to version 1.10 and lost several items on my blog…

Portfolio overview pages (page with a post list template to show all portfolio items of a particular portfolio and its descendants) no longer show portfolio items.
It seems that “Post List and Post Grid page templates can accept “portfolio” and “portfolio_tag” custom fields to filter posts.” is no longer working, and existing values are gone.
I fixed it by using a custom query (post_type=portfolio_item&portfolio=portfolio_slug).

Post Sliders also no longer show portfolio items. Here too, portfolios are no longer accepted for filtering. Here too I fixed it with a custom query.

I’m using the Akita 2.1.5 theme on WP 4.01.

Is this an error in the update or a conscious choice…?
