As the title says, I found that after updating to the latest Yoast SEO, all the values contained in my ‘guid’ column inside wp_posts got either replace with an excerpt from post_content or totally removed. Is this a normal behaviour?

  • Hi,

Thanks for the post! When Yoast is updated it is not expected to affect a site. That is not to say that Yoast won’t affect your site only that it is not expected to. We are not sure why that happened on your specific site. We ask for a conflict check as sometimes strange behavior may be caused by a plugin or theme conflict which then results in that behavior. The fastest way to rule out conflicts is to deactivate all non-Yoast plugins and switch to a standard theme like Twenty Seventeen ( https://www.ads-software.com/themes/twentyseventeen/ ).

If this resolves the issue, you have a conflict and should activate one plugin at a time until you locate the conflict. Finally, after all plugins are active, switch to your theme. This will narrow down the conflict to a specific plugin or theme.

If you are unfamiliar with checking for conflicts, we wrote a small guide that will walk you through the steps. This guide explains more: https://kb.yoast.com/kb/how-to-check-for-plugin-conflicts.

    Hello,

I always make a backup before every update on my site, and the last one I could find with guid still not modified/removed is just before updating iThemes plugin and yours. The problem is that I noticed this thing 3 days after, while I’ve already made some changes to db, and since guid doesn’t seem to affect my site, I’d prefer to have an easy query I can run to regenerate the correct links. I basically need to replace any string (random chars or empty) with ‘https://www.domain.com/p=’ + ID. Unfortunately I couldn’t find how to do it in MySQL.

While we are unable to confirm how you can replace the string to your database, you may find this thread over at Stack overflow helpful to see how you can replace the string.
