• I updated by theme today, as requested by WordPress.
The new format is entirely different – something I did not need when I had a deadline to post!
My main issue is that now when I write a post the sides left and right are blank.
There is no Add Media button so I could not upload content to my post
    There is no Excerpt space
I have to search on the right hand side in a drop down menu to get to Editor
    There is no shortlink

Since I no longer had access to the prior theme I cannot list all the other things that are missing. Basically, unless thee is some way to change the presentation of which I am unaware, there is no way I can continue to use this theme for my blog.

Please somebody tell me there is a simple fix!

The page I need help with: [log in to see the link]

Most likely you updated not your theme but WordPress to v5.xx which now uses the new Gutenberg Editor.
If this is the case then most likely what you need is the Classic Editor plugin. Read here why.

PS: I visited your site which is a blank page. I think you need to use a newer theme. if the problem is not resolved, you probably have to change the theme all together.

Thank you – that fixed it! Return to sanity.

I am now online with Go Daddy who host the site to find out why the home page is blank.

GoDaddy identified the problem as being in one of the plug-ins. I wondered if it might be Classic Editor so that WP could force me into Gutenberg.
On the advice of GD I deleted all the plug-ins and reinstalled them one at a time checking to see if the home page was visible – the idea being to identify the one causing the pronblem.
Well I reinstalled them all and the home page is back – so with that I shall go and pour myself a beer!

    Glad it worked out.

Their solution is wrong, though the idea behind it correct.

You should NOT delete your plugins. Just deactivate them. The great benefit of this method is that you get to preserve ALL of your plugin options without having to reconfigure every single one of them.

If you ever have problems again, please first follow these steps of deactivating all plugins or even debugging WordPress.

Did you find out which plugin was causing you problems?
If yes, please share it with everyone so we can see to it.

Sorry I mis-spoke. I deactivated them as you suggest. Then I reactivated them one by one.
And the strange thing is that the home page did not disappear with any of them, so I now have all my plug-ins and the page is visible.
    Strange world.
