• Hi, I’ve been trying to update Wordfence on my phone ever since it came out with no success. I finally had the opportunity to look at the error message on my admin dashboard on a desktop today and this is what it says: An error occurred while updating Wordfence Security: The update cannot be installed because we will be unable to copy some files. This is usually due to inconsistent file permissions. tmp/configCache.php

    Can you help me?

    Thanks

We’ve seen this issue on only a few sites recently — following these steps works best:

    1. On the Wordfence Options page, turn on “Disable config caching” and save the settings.
    2. Using FTP, browse to the folder wp-content/plugins/wordfence/tmp/ and remove only the file “configCache.php”
    3. Attempt the update again.

Often it will work even if you cannot do the FTP step, but at least one site required that. Let us know if this helps, or if you are still having trouble. Thanks!

Ah! That did it! Thanks so much. So you know, I tried updating after disabling the config caching but before removing the configCache file and it didn’t happen. Removing the file was apparently the key in this instance. You rock!
