• Hi Guys, a few wordfence versions previous stopped all scans working with the backupbuddy plugin installed, but after removing the backupbuddy plugin, all the websites scanned fine, but since version 5.3.6, most of my websites stopped working completely with the fatal error out of memory error, removing the wordfence plugin got all my websites working again, any ideas. my websites use various plugins, but so far i’ve found over 50 websites, which have stopped working at all until i totally remove wordfence.

any help would be appreciated as i’m sure there must be thousands of other websites doing the same thing, where people may be unaware of, thanks in advance guys… ??

  • yes, I have the same problem. I needed to disable it on some sites. It’s not a questions of the memorylimit, on one site it os 512M. 5.3.5 worked fine, but even going crashes them.

i’m glad it’s not just me, i got used to uninstalling backupbuddy every time i used it, but now, most of my websites won’t work unless i remove the latest version of wordfence and some only have a few plugins installed. Can anyone from Wordfence shed any light, i think its a case of a false positive again, but the latest version seems too sensitive?

    here’s a message of a server (plesk 12, PHP 5.5) with 512M:

Fatal error: Allowed memory size of 268435456 bytes exhausted (tried to allocate 3008981 bytes) in /var/www/vhosts/…/httpdocs/wp-includes/functions.php on line 377

On the same machine it works on a multisite without any problem.

I’m having the same problem. My entire multisite network went down with the latest update.

I removed the plugin but there are still sites that won’t come back. What did you guys change with this latest release?

i changed absolutely nothing, the second wordpress updated most of my websites went down, i just logged in via ftp and removed the wordfence folder from the plugin directory, all websites fine now…

on one site I located a conflict with jetpack. I deactiated one by one and tried to activate wordfence. with disablwd jetpack I could reactivate it.

I’ll check this on more sites today.

ok, second site was the same:

    – after update from 3.3.5 to 3.3.6 my site crashed (500er)
    – deleted wordfence via ftp solved the problem
    – couldn’t activate it again (fatal errors)
    – deactivated jetpack
    – installed and activated wordfence again
    – activated jetpack

    everything works …

Where’s the official communication from the plugin authors?

    Hi all

@daniel Which fatal errors did you get on turning on Wordfence again? Is there a conflict with Jetpack on all sites you had an issue with?

    We’re here. ??

Daniel: I’m assuming you meant to type “5.3.5 to 5.3.6”. And it sounds like you got a 500 Internal Server Error. Please check your web server error log or ask your host to do that. Usually when it’s an out of memory issue you’ll just see a white screen, not a 500 error. The 500 usually indicates PHP code issue – perhaps a plugin conflict.

Please enable debugging in Wordfence. Here’s how:

    https://docs.wordfence.com/en/Wordfence_options#Enable_debugging_mode_.28increases_database_load.29

Then do a scan and tell us where it stops or runs out of memory or what issue it encounters.

mightygeeks you asked what we changed. Here’s the changelog: https://www.ads-software.com/plugins/wordfence/changelog/

    Thanks.
