• Hello,

Since I’ve updated to the latest WordPress, my site has gone down three times. I go to my website, the page is blank and it appears to download some sort of file.

I file a ticket with my site hosting company (Siteground), and they say they keep removing the code below and reverting back to PHP 7. However, the problem keeps happening every few days. Do you know the steps to try to fix this problem?
Is it updating all my plugins?
    Deactivating them all?

“The issue is caused by invalid directive added to the .htaccess of your website:

    AddHandler application/x-httpd-php70s .php”

Or is there an update to the theme that is needed?

The page I need help with: [log in to see the link]

  • Hi there,
I am afraid this is not related to the theme. I suggest rechecking your server configuration or if any plugin is adding the directive in your .htaccess file.

Also, updating your plugins and theme might be mandatory if you have updated to the latest WordPress version.

Let me know if you need additional help on this.

Thank you so much for the quick response! I’m a little disheartened, because I’ve recently migrated to the site to a new hosting company, and now the WordPress update, so I’m not sure which is the problem to isolate.

Would you recommend I backup the whole site before upgrading the plugins? Just concerned yet more variables going wrong.

How do I check the server configuration? Is that with the host?

    Hi there,
First backup everything(files and database)! Then start updating your plugins.

Now, if a plugin is causing the issue(caching plugin maybe?), updating it does not mean that your site breakdowns will stop. So, check for plugin conflicts https://www.cssigniter.com/kb/checking-for-plugin-conflicts/ before and after the update.

Your host should be able to set up everything correctly in your server. There is not much you can do by yourself.
