• I changed my website from http to https, but now the lay-out is messed up.

In this old topic there seems to be a solution: https://www.ads-software.com/support/topic/content-displays-differently-on-ssl-site/

However, while installing the Really Simple SSL plugin I am asked for the Hostname and the ftp user login and then I get an error. The ftp I assume is the username and password I use to log in to my web host’s control panel, but what host name do I enter? I tried the url of my website (it says username incorrect), then also with an addition (:2083) that I see for the control panel (it says connection failed), so neither works.

The page I need help with: [log in to see the link]

FTP is a hosting feature and WordPress has nothing to do with your FTP connection credentials. It seems your host uses cPanel, and, in most cases, you should be able to find your FTP connection details in your cPanel account. If you’re unable to find it, please reach out to your host for help.

As to your layout issues, it’s a “mixed content” problem.

You changed your site to use HTTPS. Going forward, every media you upload will have HTTPS in its URL. But the previously uploaded media still have the old HTTP URLs, and browsers will not load assets that use HTTP URLs on an HTTPS site… hence the “mixed content” problem.

In other ways, simply changing your site address to HTTPS is not enough: you need to run a “search and replace” on your database to change ALL URLs with HTTP to HTTPS as well.

The Really Simple SSL plugin can do this, plus a bunch of other things related to SSL and security.
