    I believe you are using a content designer type of tool, so the portfolio content is wrapped in <pre> and <code> tags.

    Unwarp it will solve your problem.

    Unless it is built into my theme (pretty basic theme) there shouldn’t be anything getting in the way. Where would you typically see the pre and code tags?

    Please open the page in editor, the page which has the shortcode for our portfolio.

    Switch the editing mode to HTML, in the editor you will see those tags. Just remove them, before and after the shortcode.
