Hi! Just started using the plugin a couple of days ago and I like it a lot, but I’m having a weird problem that I’m in over my head trying to deal with.

I need to set up a sidebar on one part of my site, but no sidebar on the rest of the site. I set each theme up with the layout I want and each is fine when it’s the active theme and the Multiple Themes plugin is deactivated.

However, as soon as I activate the plugin, the layout changes even on the active theme — the sidebar ends up at the bottom of the page. Then, if I activate the other theme, the widgets even disappear from the sidebar.

I’m using WordPress 3.5.1 with Portfolio and Inkblot as the themes. Any suggestions? Thanks in advance!

  • Please give me 2 hours until I get home and can do some testing and research.

First, I need to clarify that you mean “Portfolio Press” when you say you are using the Portfolio Theme. Assuming so, I set up my test environment and couldn’t see any obvious issues when I tried setting up those two Themes.

However, it sounds like you are trying to set Theme Options by activating each Theme in turn. Unfortunately, that doesn’t work because WordPress was not built with “multiple active themes” in mind, and my plugin will need a lot of work to make that work.

Instead, the best I can offer right now is the explanation in the first FAQ “How do I change the Theme Options (Widgets, Sidebars, Menus, Background, Header, etc.) used for each Theme?” on this page: https://www.ads-software.com/extend/plugins/jonradio-multiple-themes/faq/

At this point, I need to wait to hear from you as to whether the Method(s) suggested in that FAQ item work for you. If not, I can try to more exactly match what you are doing, and I’ll ask you the questions I need answers for, to do that.

Thanks so much for the fast reply!

I do mean Portfolio Press, sorry ??

I actually tried the method with Theme Test Drive first and still had this problem… But I’m going to try it again right now and just double-check that I followed the steps right. I’ll get back to you after I try again.

    Thanks again! Appreciate your time.

Okay, I followed Method 2 from the FAQ very carefully this time! Things are mostly working — the two themes are applying to the pages I want.

But the sidebar is still at the bottom of the page! When I’m using Theme Test Drive and view the page through Appearance > Customize, the sidebar is where I want it. It’s after I deactivate that and activate Multiple Themes that the layout changes.

It is progress, though, because my widgets are there now. As a matter of fact this setup will be good enough as long as I am able to style the widgets…Hopefully whatever is causing this won’t make it so styling changes don’t stick or anything like that…

I did a little experimentation with Portfolio Press and did see the left sidebar get pushed to the bottom of the page in both Internet Explorer 10 and the latest version of FireFox (browser). But only when I shrunk the browser window’s width a lot.

It behaved in the same manner with my plugin activated or deactivated.

Thanks again for looking at it…

It definitely isn’t related to the size of the browser window, even full-size, the sidebar is always at the bottom of the page. I’m not sure what to try now…if you have any thoughts as to what I could try next to fix it, it would be much appreciated…I’m totally stumped and frustrated ??

I’m thinking I might just have to trash the whole idea of using two themes and go back to having two sites. But I don’t really want to do that after all the time I’ve put into trying to do it this way…argh.

Never mind! I tried going through all my plugins again one by one and it seems to be a different one that’s the common denominator. I’m sorry for bothering you!
