Layout settings missing in Portfolio items

When I look at an individual portfolio item, I don’t want the default layout template, which is content + sidebar. I would like the portfolio items to be shown in full wide page without sidebar. I can’t change the default setting for the entire site, is there a way to change the layout setting for each portfolio item?
