Hi fropky,
Thanks for reaching out.
You are right. Lazy loading of Adsense ads has a (positive) impact on Active View Rate and CTR of manually placed AdSense ads.
I ran several tests for this tutorial about How to lazy load AdSense a while ago and could not notice any negative impact on the CPC or the earnings of the ad units that I tested.
Furthermore, I don’t see any limitations regarding AdSense optimizations, even if you allow AdSense to “optimize” manually placed ads with Auto Ads in the Auto Ads settings.
Moreover, I am sure that Adsense already identifies and considers the source code lazy-loaded images and elements like AdSense ads. Ultimately, lazy loading does not happen server-side but via JavaScript in the individual user’s browser.
As in all cases, I recommend every user test the different integration of ads intensively to learn what works best on the respective website.
If you’re worried that lazy loading will have a negative effect on your AdSense revenue, test it out and see if your theory is correct. Otherwise, you can easily disable lazy loading for certain placements with Advanced Ads so that you only use this feature for particular ads.
“I know lazy load in a paid feature and should be asked on premium support. But I think this needs a public discussion. I hope you agree with it.”
I agree with it, but not the forum guidelines, so I will mark this thread as resolved. If you have any furhter questions about lazy loading, feel free to ask a pre-sale question or you might discuss that on our Facebook page.
Best regards,
Joachim
