I am afraid I have no influence on that, this plugin simply loads the iframe on click the same way it would in normal mode on pageload just with autoplay always on.

How long did you wait for the vimeo video to play? Maybe its just buffering?

This should actually a 1 step process for providers that support autoplay and Vimeo and YoTube do. Clicking the image will load and play the video on desktop for me. It may be that youtube and/or vimeo behave differently on android. I have no android to test this and again no influence on the behavior if they override what this plugin tells them “Autoplay this Video”.

Please check this here: YouTube, Vimeo and tell me if you have the same issue on this site. And if this is for you the intended 1 step process on desktop but not on android.

OK, here’s a video of what’s going on when using my Nexus 7:

Thanks for making this Video this is better then words! Interesting but I have no idea why this happens. I am gonna ask Vimeo I guess.

So for YouTube it directly shows the play button, so the real issue seems to be only Vimeo right?. My guess is that they prevent the autoplay on purpose on mobiles, but Vimeo should at least show the video normally with play button in the middle and image background like YouTube.

You tried clearing the cache of your mobile browser or tried a different browser? I assume this is the Android default browser?

I assume on desktop it’s both 1 click = play immediately for you as intended?

Yes, YouTube works the same on both iOS and Android. It’s a 2 step process, click thumbnail, then click play button. All good.

…but Vimeo should at least show the video normally with play button in the middle and image background like YouTube.

Yes, I agree with you. It’s weird, it’s like Vimeo on Android is trying to autoplay, but just can’t do it… just keeps spinning and spinning.

For Android I’m using Chrome, although in my testing with the device no one browser works as well as Safari on iPad.

OK, going on your suggestion I tested Dolphin browser (Android) and the Vimeo video plays after clicking the thumbnail. There is NO other play button. Click, buffer, play… https://vimeo.com/89916054 But, YouTube does not, it’s the same 2 step process. So, it seems Chrome (at least on Android) is not able to buffer/play after the thumbnail is clicked.

You also probably noticed Dolphin does not show anything when the mode is set to normal. Go figure.

So, not sure if any other this helps, but at least we know. HA!

    No problems on desktop! ??

Your last link is not working.

You also probably noticed Dolphin does not show anything when the mode is set to normal. Go figure.

No I did not. So when you use normal mode on Android Vimeo works the same bugged way or not at all? I was about to tell you that I suggest use normal mode for Vimeo then as temporary fix ;-

I just wrote a mail to Vimeo support asking about this and sending them here. Lets hope they help to figure this out.
