Leaderboard ads 728×90 on twenty fourteen theme?

I am almost shocked that I can’t find an answer to this anywhere, and I’ve spent days searching. As a theme downloaded a quarter-million times, has no one answered how to position a 728×90 size ad space in the header of it?

Any help would be greatly appreciated, I believe I exhausted every avenue available…
