Leave / Stay on Page Dialogue

    I notice in WordPress 5.6 and annoying bug or perhaps a feature. Often when you Update a post to save changes and go to View post the browser dialogue will show the Leave or Stay on page message. I have seen this a lot with the block editor but now I am seeing it in classic style editors i.e. WooCommerce products. It is intermittent in its appearance but is extremely annoying as it adds extra time to workflows. Should be fixed.

  • Same story here. Brand new install, no WooCommerce, just the Classic Editor plugin.
    On all up-to-date sites I’m working in the last couple of weeks.

    Same problem, only on sites created this year but both localhost and online sites. A previously created site which uses the same combination of themes and plugins does not have the problem. The message does not appear if I change to another page before the previous one finishes refreshing.
    At a guess, it seems that Wp is resetting an ‘unsaved’ flag when it is not necessary.
    (I use classic editor in text mode only and there is no woo-commerce type plugin))

    @roaftech Would the previously created sites not start exhibiting the problem if you updated WordPress in those sites?

    There is a fix posted on comments #28, #52 there (add on functions.php) that works for me

    @lmels Yes, I have checked a bit further – sites which have been updated to Wp 5.6.1 are all showing the same symptoms. My earlier sites, still on 5.3.6, are acting as I would expect.

    @roaftech As expected then – was wondering if it was a weirder thing than it already is ??

    I hope they’ll fix it soon, because it’s really very annoying. The prompt is super useful in day-to-day editing, but if it’s always there, it becomes useless, and I always have to second guess myself: “did I already click the update button? Did the change go through? Better click it again to be sure, since the prompt could be right this time…”

    I assume 5.6.2 fix hasn’t been pushed out yet? I’m on the bug 5.6.1 and don’t see any updates available from dashboard.

    I’m assuming as well that 5.6.1 is still the latest available. Meanwhile, that patch worked for me and saved some second-guessing until 5.6.2 is out.

    I have the same issue, but it’s when I edit a topic in bbpress. I posted the question there but now I think it might be a WP issue. this link will show the error message.Error message

    Im getting this every time I want to login – makes it look like a security issue for users.
