I have hundreds of images. The library does not have an option to select/create a folder. New to WP sorry. Am I missing something. Why is it so hard. You upload a photo choose a folder in the library. When you bring up the library select the folder. This is not the case but you lead me to believe this true in your description. Did I get it wrong…. or am I missing something? Thanks

WordPress doesn’t allow control of the filesystem. You’re supposed to worry about other things, and let WP take care of the content management for you.

Custom Upload Dir simply expands the options WordPress provide for how it will store files for you. In my case, I want the file system to mirror my permalink structure so browsing my backups or drives provides the same context as the WordPress archive.

The vast majority of users will never need to bother with this, but I’m a stickler for long term viability. When WordPress dies, or when the tables of metadata is lost, my files will not be a ginormous jumble of unsorted crap.

Anyhow: take a look at the screenshots. They should make it clearer.
