FYI — I used the technique from Cais “clearing the image cache under Gallery > Other Options > Miscellaneous … if that does not work, try using the Reset Option under Gallery > Other Options then clear the image cache again.”

I’m also having the same issue. Suddenly my lightbox is gone. Everything has been updates and I’ve tried the above fixes, but it’s still not working.

@rokawalsh — Errors like this typically occur due to a conflict on your site. I’d like to have you try a few things here. Please deactivate ALL plugins. Please also temporarily switch your theme to a WordPress default theme like Twenty Twelve. Now, reactivate NextGEN Gallery only. If this turns out OK and the error does not occur, switch back your theme. If there is still no error, than that’s a good sign – no theme conflict! ?? Now reactivate each of your other plugins until the error comes back and let me know which one is the culprit.
