    Hello,

I have been using Easy FancyBox for a long time and recently it started displaying images smaller than what would fit in the screen. I have a couple of screen captures in the following folder:

    https://www.dropbox.com/scl/fo/xn9v9c2ano3p6y7plbutm/AE_e_Yc7eIoLIutK0Fwb22g?rlkey=jwakkcmba2h96h4zmfc9qn2k7&dl=0

You can see the actual dimensions, 1650×1100 pixels, but the displayed image is considerably smaller as you can read. There is ample space around it to display it larger. In my settings, I have the Lighbox Version as FancyBox V2.

What settings, if any, can be changed to make the images display larger? Some older images are displayed even smaller, like postage stamps!

    Thank you,

    Cemal

Hi @acekin – I took an initial look at this and tested locally myself.

Normally the setting to adjust for this is Window > Width. And that setting works fine in classic and legacy.

But I can duplicate something similar to what you are seeing with FB2. The margin setting applies, but Fancybox 2 is effectively limiting width to 960px, no matter the margin. This does not happen with Classic or Reloaded.

Initially I assumed this may be related to some of the options changes we this year. But I just tested with the last 1.9.x version (before we made any recent major changes), and I see the exact same behavior there: FB2 images cannot expand past a certain display width regardless of image size or margin setting.

I don’t know where that limit in FB2 is coming from. It’s not anything we apply in the code, and it’s not some kind of default number in the FB2 script itself. My best guess now is that the FB2 script is doing some calculations somewhere based on window + ratios and calculating a max width.

After an hour or two of looking, I was not able to figure out where the limit is coming from.

We will resolve this as it is not what should be happening. We’ll keep digging this week. And I’ll keep you posted when we figure it out and prep a fix.

    Thanks for the report.

Thank you for looking into this issue. I would like to provide a little more information with the hope that it may point at something:

    1. This is a laptop, Lenovo Yoga, with a resolution of 3200 x 2000.
    2. Since at that resolution, nothing is legible, it has a setting to magnify everything 200% effectively making the screen 1600 x 1000
    3. Recently, I also read about Device Pixel Ratio that may determine how things are displayed and how some software may adjust dimension. I don’t know more beyond the general concept.
    4. Images I add using an image block display as expected, but if they are clickable their size shrinks like any other lightbox presentation

I will try the other lightbox versions and wait.

    Take care,

I switched the lightbox version to FancyBox Classic Reloaded and the image sizes returned to their larger selves. However, that version does not support the new fade option but stretches the images. I will leave it that way until you look further into the issue. Look at my site and see how the lightbox works.

    Thank you,

In the above mentioned folder there are three more screen captures. One shows the device pixel ratio when using Firefox. The other two are the screen captures with an image displayed in the lightbox and in an empty tab. You will notice that the image sizes appear identical. There is also a rule overlaid with the reading hand positioned on the right edge of the image. In both instances it reads 1557 pixels. Now, multiply the device pixel ratio, 2.2222222222222 by 700!

This was not happening when I used V2 lightbox. I thought I would share my observations with the hope that it may possibly help fine-tuning the algorithm that scales the images.

@acekin – I just pushed a fix/setting for this (assuming your issue is the same I’m diagnosing now).

Fancybox2, unlike the other lightboxes, will take account of the pixel ratio for retina displays. That means image will display smaller on retina. I added an options for Fancybox 2 > Window > Adjust images for retina. When OFF, fancybox 2 will not take account of retina pixel ratios, and will appear the same large size you’d see with others. With it ON, fancybox 2 will take account of pixel ratios, and images may appear smaller.

Can you give that a try and confirm if it resolves the original issue you reported?

If it doesn’t work initially, please try toggling the setting on, save, then off again, and save. That should not be needed but it was oddly for a site of for me just now when I tested post release.

    Thanks!

That worked! If I put a checkmark in the box, a smaller image appears. However, removing the checkmark displays the images correctly. And, the fading works as well. Thank you.

There is one difference I noticed between lightbox versions. FB V2 allows the screen and the image to scroll when the lightbox is active but the Classic Reloaded does not. This is just an observation.
