Lightbox is disabled…need to reenable it

I’m not really sure what happened but lightbox seems to be disabled. The problem is I am using a custom theme and I can find support from their official forum. I have tried using the lightbox plugin and force the galleries to be using lightbox but it will not working. Does anyone have any tips or pointers for me? Currently what happens when you click on a picture is that it opens it on top of the site that is already open. Not are in a new window but right on top of the previous page so people have to click back to get to the previous page. Would be greatly appreciated.
