@triplemoons – My first thought would be to check you WordPress Permalinks and try something such as “Post name” or “Month name” … I am seeing the Lightbox open a copy of the web site which usually points to a web host / Permalinks issue.

    Thanks!

Thank you, but resetting the permalinks did not resolve the issue.

Their isn’t anything amiss with our server. We run about 20 WP installations on our VPS.

@triplemoons – Have you checked for any possibly conflicts with other active plugins? Are you using a custom template for the basic thumbnails?

Nothing is active on the installation sans NextGEN Public Uploader.

I’m using the template gallery-caption.php that came with NextGen.

@triplemoons – What happens when you only have NextGEN Gallery itself active?

    Same behavior.

Here’s something interesting. When I view the source for the page, the code that the gallery generator output clearly lists the attachment page instead of the image. This is likely why it’s happening, but why is the gallery generator outputting this in the first place?

Lightbox works correctly when the Image Browser option is selected.

@triplemoons – The code you are noting is the placeholder <img> tag used by NextGEN Gallery to reference (dynamically) the display you have inserted, it looks correct.

Where are you setting the ImageBrowser effect at?

The only place I’m aware of setting the ImageBrowser effect (and I’ve went through them all) is in Gallery > Other Options > Lightbox Effects.

@triplemoons – The “ImageBrowser” is a specific display type. You can set the NextGEN Basic Thumbnails to use the ImageBrowser display (which would work in place of the Lightbox Effect) either under Gallery > Gallery Settings > NextGEN Basic Thumbnails … “Use imagebrowser effect” (set to Yes); or, you can set this specifically for a display inserted via the IGW (“green button”) as its display type, or if you choose the Basic Thumbnails then you can set it under the Customization panel.

The option is not available under Gallery > Other Options > Lightbox Effects (unless something has “modified” how NextGEN Gallery works).

You are speaking of something different then I had thought you were.

Yes, the “Use imagebrowser effect” is set to yes.

I’ve been developing with WordPress for six years, this isn’t the first time I’ve used NextGen. Though it is the first time I’ve used your version of it.

@triplemoons – What I am seeing on your site does not reflect the “Use imagebrowser effect” being set to Yes (except that the Lightbox is showing the page with the image in the ImageBrowser display).

Have you tried a different Lightbox Effect? Have you modified the Twenty Fourteen theme you are using? I cannot think of any setting or standard option in NextGEN Gallery that would cause this to happen.

Are you using a customized version of the “captions” template for the display?

Perhaps you could grab a screen shot of the settings you are using in the Customization panel for that gallery display?

Have you tried a different Lightbox Effect?

Yes, as stated previously I have tried all of them.

Have you modified the Twenty Fourteen theme you are using?

    No.

Are you using a customized version of the “captions” template for the display

    No.

Something else irritating is it appears to get “stuck” despite modifying the settings on the Page edit. I can’t get it off the ImageBrowser template now even thought it’s set to Basic Thumbnails. I’ve even went as far as deleting the gallery on the page and recreating it and it just won’t switch.

Perhaps something corrupted in NextGen’s portion of the database. Is their an easy way to wipe our NextGen and start over?

@triplemoons – I’ve mimicked the settings in the screen shot (thanks) and I cannot reproduce this issue as is … would you be able to submit a Bug Report (https://www.nextgen-gallery.com/report-bug/ … please reference this topic) for this as we will likely need to have a closer look at the site to see what may be going on.

We will need log in (and FTP) credentials to the WordPress installation as well, please include those with your Bug Report.

    Thanks!

    – Cais.
