Hi all, I’ve recently facing a spam issue on some of my client’s pages.
this spam image saying – “Like Free Stuff go to xwinner.com” on a big image.

I don’t know how this image has been embedded and how to get rid of it.
Did anyone have a similar issue?

    Thank you!

  • Hi, Carpediem.

I’ve looked on google and somebody had a similar issue using Blogger.com
On the link below, you can see that the person resolved it delleting a line form the code.

Maybe it can help. Did it appear after addding any plug-in or changin theme?

    Hi Jazz,

    Thanks for your reply.

Yes, I’ve added these three plugins and activated them

Google Analytics for WordPress by MonsterInsights
    Google XML Sitemaps
    Yoast SEO

Since then some of pages showed that images
and the image address starts like this below which is not my client’s website address.

Is there any chance to be hacked by installing those plugins?

Can you share the link to your affected site?

    Hi Luckychingi

    This page below.
The other pages look okay except for these pages below.
The first page had a link on the ad so I thought I could solve the problem if I remove the image in HTML and I deleted the img tag but then now it is embedded in the background which I can’t do anything.

The second one still has a link on the image as it is a dummy page, I haven’t touch it yet.

Thank you for your help in advance!!
    Cheers,

Install WordFence and run a scan to find out which files have been modified.

Also it seems like this if only affecting the blog page. Check single.php file by visiting Appearance -> Editor

Check for any modification on posts_nav_link

    Thanks Luckychingi for your help!

I’ve run WordFence, and it said “Scanning for old themes, plugins and core files – problem found”
but only suggested to upgrade some plugins and some of themes (twentyfourteen, twentyfiteen) My client hasn’t activated Akismet plugin yet so suggested him to activate as soon as possible if that helps to solve this issue.

Sorry, I’m not a web developer so don’t know what those names of the thames mean though.

Also, I took a look at Editor section but couldn’t find anything particular.

Based on how your theme is created, the file might be located in template folder.

I would ask the theme developer to take a look and fix it

    @luckychingi

    Thank you luckychingi,

Yeah, luckily the issue has been solved for some reason.
We don’t see the spam ad here anymore (I hope you don’t see it either at your end)
After a few hours I deleted the image tag or after I run WordFence.

The page below still have the same issue as I didn’t do anything at this stage.
I will try to delete img tag from this page as well and we’ll see how it goes
and will get in touch with our web developer to look into the themes he created.
