Limit number of thumbnails for the gallery in a post

  • I’m curious how I might limit the number of thumbnails shown when I use the [gallery] shortcode in a post. I’d like to do this with the single.php or post.php template.
    Not looking to limit it to specific image ID’s since this will be a rule across the board for single posts.
