Hi! I hope someone will be able to help me on this..

I want to create a free trial membership (free access to the content for x days).
Now I have tried doing that using a free (no payment required) access plan that expires after 7 days. Needless to say, students should only be able to join this membership ONE single time, after which they’ll have to purchase a paid plan.

I don’t see how I can limit the number of times a student can enroll in a free trial membership. (You know, they might as well just keep enrolling in one free trial after another!)

I also tried the option of allowing a free trial period in a paid access plan, but it seems that students need to purchase the plan and pay the whole amount to benefit from the free trial?

    Any help would be appreciated!

  • Hi @hibans

Typically with the trial payment the user would sign up for the access plan and the first seven days would be free. Then they would start their subscription as usual unless they cancel, similar to for example Netflix or Hulu.

If you don’t want to do that set up you can do this by going ahead and creating an access play that is free for 7 days.

Then set that access plan to to hidden (next to the no payment needed button). You can then use this shortcode: https://lifterlms.com/docs/shortcodes/#lifterlms_access_plan_button or use the access plan link to make a custom button and use the block visibility settings to only show to logged out users: https://lifterlms.com/docs/using-block-visibility-settings/

You can then use a plugin like Redirection: https://www.ads-software.com/plugins/redirection/ to make access to the free checkout plan conditional to users who have not previously registered by directing any logged in users back to the membership page to sign up with the proper plan.

Could this work around help with your trial?

Let us know if you have any further questions!

    All the best,

    This worked PERFECT!
I added a custom button to join trial with visibility limited to non-enrolled students, and also added a text block “You’ve already used your free trial” visible to enrolled students.

    Thank you very much!
    Have a great day!
