Limit the amount of items per page

Is there a way to set a limit to the amount of items shown on a page WITHOUT affecting the number of Blog pages shown? For example; I only want to show my latest 5 blog entries, but for my client proofing site I want to show 10 images per page.

There are a lot of items. This makes the loading time to long.

For people that shoot events this is a much needed ability.
