I have played around with every setting I can think of over several weeks, and still can’t make this work.

I would like to notify users of posts, but only posts that fall under a specific category. How do I do this?

  • Under “Post Notification”, when you add a notification or edit one, the first option is subscribers group and the second is post categories.

Have you tried that and it isn’t working?

Some additional information about the issue would be helpful. Just saying “it doesn’t work” is too vague to attempt to help.

Sure thing! Screenshots included. In Mail Configuration, I’ve set an email that is supposed to send the 3 most recent posts with Category “dogs”.

I then go the Send Email, send the mail I’ve configured.
The subscribers are getting the 3 latest posts to the website, regardless of Category.
Despite the fact that I configured it to be the 3 latest posts in one specific Category.

OK. Now I understand. You are trying to manually send the last 3 posts rather than automatically notify people of new posts.

The only thing is that categories have numerical ID’s and that’s what’s required in that category list. It doesn’t accept slugs or names.

This solved my problem. Thank you, Bret!
