Line breaks using accordions
-
I am using the Squelch Tabs and Accordions and perhaps I’m just coding it wrong but it appears I am unable to insert line breaks without starting a new accordion.
I would like to be able to use line breaks inside each accordion, such as after the word Motivation below.
here is an example of some my code:[accordion title=” – Board Chair”]?Alice Hoffert – Board Chair[/accordion]
Affiliations
Current: Greater Grand Forks Senior Citizens Center Board of Director
Current: LISTEN Center Board of Directors
Former UND Associate Vice President for Enrollment?
Former Grand Forks and East Grand Forks United Way Allocation Committee and University Coordinator
Former Pine to Prairie Girl Scout Council Board of Directors?
Motivation:
“Giving back to the community that has given so much to me and my family is a priority. The privilege of being part of the Sunshine Memorial Foundation allows me to actively contribute and aligns directly with this priority. It is exciting to be able to know that a hospitality home in Grand Forks is becoming a reality.”

Hi DJ … I saw a number of posts of yours on Twitter during wcsf, and thanks for the follow ??
Your code appears a little broken I’m afraid, I’m not 100% sure what you want to go where, so I’ll do my best to answer your question but if I’ve missed the point do say so…
The basic syntax is:
[accordions] [/accordions]
around the whole thing. Then inside of that you want any number of individual
[accordion][/accordion]
tags. Each tag can have a title, and anything between the two tags will become content in the tag, e.g.[accordions] [accordion title="Boarch Chair: Alice Hoffert"] <strong>Affiliations</strong> Current: Greater Grand Forks Senior Citizens Center Board of Director Current: LISTEN Center Board of Directors Former UND Associate Vice President for Enrollment? Former Grand Forks and East Grand Forks United Way Allocation Committee and University Coordinator Former Pine to Prairie Girl Scout Council Board of Directors? <strong>Motivation:</strong> “Giving back to the community that has given so much to me and my family is a priority. The privilege of being part of the Sunshine Memorial Foundation allows me to actively contribute and aligns directly with this priority. It is exciting to be able to know that a hospitality home in Grand Forks is becoming a reality.” email Alice [/accordion] [/accordions]
In the code you posted, “Alice Hoffert – Board Chair” is the content of the accordion and everything until the next accordion is not contained by an actual accordion shortcode, it’s just free-floating text which won’t behave as expected as the
[accordion]...[/accordion]
tag is what makes each individual accordion panel on the page.Does that make sense? It’s a little hard to explain this stuff over a forum sometimes… If that’s not clear then send me another message and I’ll try again!
If core does indeed get the nice fancy editing interface Ma.tt was talking about in The State Of The Word then I’m sure it’ll be a lot easier to do this stuff in the future; I’d just create some sort of box in the editing interface that you can drag and drop into the editor which would massively simplify all this stuff. Until then though we have to make do with Shortcodes!
Thanks I figured I broke the code.
Still can’t figure out how to add line breaks inside of an accordion
I would like to put in a line break at the word “Motivation” – however if I do, it creates another accordion
the following is my code from https://sunshinememorial.org/accordion-test/

This desire to be involved was enhanced even more when the SMF took on the Sunshine Hospitality Home project. Over the years, I have worked with very tiny babies and seen how devastating it is for parents to have to leave their bedside because there was nowhere for them to stay or they could not afford accommodations on top of their expensive medical costs. I longed for a place that would offering the caring, compassion accommodations that were so vital to caring for the whole patient and their families. Hi dj, you still have loads of content that is not contained by a
[accordion]
shortcode. ALL content needs to be inside of an[accordion][/accordion]
block. So this is valid:[accordions] [accordion title="Acc 1"]Blah blah[/accordion] [accordion title="Acc 2"] Blah blah blah [/accordion] [/accordions]
But this is NOT valid:
[accordions] [accordion title="Acc 1"]Blah blah[/accordion] [accordion title="Acc 2"]Blah[/accordion] blah blah [/accordions]
Note the two “blah” words are not enclosed by an accordion tag block and, as such, will break the layout. In your case
[accordion] Alice Hoffert - Board Chair [/accordion]
Is a valid accordion.

is all just random text that is not associated with any accordion, so it’s breaking the markup on the page. Putting a new-line in it doesn’t work because it’s not valid markup on the page. When you fix your code there shouldn’t be an issue with newlines any more.
