Line Wrap – line numbers don't follow lines

when I’m using line numbers and wrap the lines, the line numbers for drop to the correct line.
example: Line 1 wraps to 3 lines, line 2 is now marked “4” instead of 2 blanks in the line numbers.
The line highlighting works (ie, all 3 of the wrapped lines have the same background color).
Hope this makes sense.
