link broken after enable wp external links

I really don’t see how WP External Links would cause this.

The issue seems to be with some <small> element that gets it’s opening tag escaped but not the closing tag (see screenshot https://prnt.sc/Z5hYeva3FX9Z ).

WP External Links doesn’t even do anything to plain anchor links like href=”#” like this broken link. If you check the source you will see it’s missing the data-wpel-link that should be added to affected links.

i have disable the plugin now, you may take a look, let me know if you need me to turn back on the plugin to check again

Try enabling WP External Links, but in the Exceptions tab of External Links, uncheck Apply To All Contents and just leave the 3 checkboxes checked. This should prevent WP External Links from affecting links added by other plugins.
