• Using latest version of P2 – the new quick post box has several buttons: “status update”, “blog post”, “quote”, and “link”. The link button seems to be non-functional. Clicking it has no pop up or additional entry fields, and posts using it have no additional or custom styling.

The ideal behavior would be to bring up a simple box for a hyperlink URL to be pasted, which would then generate the typical a href html wrapping text.

Basic styling – bold, italic, and blockquote – would also be welcome additions. I understand that the integration of quickpress as a function with hooks, to be leveraged by P2 in the future, may solve some of these problems (including the lack of functionality of the Media upload button). However that is probably not until 3.2 at teh earliest, according to wordpress trac.

in fact, a P2 trac would be hugely helpful.

    (bump)

anyone else having issues with the LINK button on P2?

FYI this is an old issue – older thread on the topic was closed with no resolution:

This is not a bug, nor is it broken. ??

The Link input works fine but P2 doesn’t have any styles for it yet. Would love your ideas on how to make it better.

Ah. I didnt understand. I thought the LINK button would be an insert hyperlink button, not a style.

You’re going for a Tublr approach, then? In that case I’d suggest copying teh style from the Quote button, except instead of “citation” you’d have “URL”. The URL would be made clickable of course but otherwise make it identical to Quote, style-wise.

This would be the fastest “fix” since this issue is confusing many users and its better to have basic functionality rather than zero functionality.

Cool, thanks for the ideas and the feedback. This has been on our list to fix for a while now.

Lance, how about also adding a “Video” quick link? The styling should be similar to the Link – main text field is for explanatory text and the “link” would be the Youtube URL. This would obviate having to use the [youtube=http….] syntax entirely.

Also, one last feature request. There need to be some post styling buttons on the quickpost editor as well, akin to the ones you see right here in the forum. bold, ital, link, quote, and ol/ul/li at bare minimum.

and – i really would like to see a Trac for P2 at some point. It’s just as important a project as Buddypress.

There are so many features that coudl be added by enthusiastic users if there were some resources devoted to organizing the project within automattic. For example, @replies, per-post thread toggle, facebook connect, intensedebate integration, and following.

I’m glad you think P2 is as important as BuddyPress. ?? We don’t have plans for a P2 Trac, though.

Feel free to continue posting ideas here to the forums, tag it with “p2” and let everyone join in and add their ideas, too.

The formatting buttons idea we’ve had for a while, so look for that in a future release. I don’t think we’ll add the Video quick link, though.

    Thanks again for the ideas.

I’d like to see a separate box for the link (just like quote) only make the specified link the permalink for that item. Then display it the same as a quote, only have the url in there.

P2 *is* as important as Buddypress. Seriously. It could be the distributed Twitter with just a few more features.

Can you hint as to when the next release will be?

We release new versions about once a month (https://www.ads-software.com/extend/themes/p2).

    @azizpoonnawalla

    “…distributed Twitter…” << exactly !

We could feed P2 posts (or designated posts) to Twitter and have replies and RT’s show as post comments. People could follow via whatever platform they want, content and conversation both in the database and the cloud.

    I should have added:

It would be cool if the “Link” feature could discover title, description, and auto-populate.

    Hi,

given Lances positive response a few months ago, I just wanted to bump this thread to remind the devs of the feature requests. To recap:

    * for the LINK button, copy the style from the QUOTE button, except instead of “citation” you’d have “URL”. The URL would be made clickable of course but otherwise make it identical to Quote, style-wise.

    * add a VIDEO button, styling should be similar to QUOTE and LINK as above – main text field is for explanatory text and the “link” would be the Youtube URL. This would obviate having to use the [youtube=http….] syntax entirely.

    * add basic HTML buttons (b, i, link, b-quote, code, ul, ol, li) to the main field to facilitate markup. In fact, re-use teh same code as the bbpress text input box uses – these are perfect! code reuse always best ??

If there is a more appropriate place than here to post these feature requests, please let me know. I still believe P2 is as important as BBpress and Buddypress and deserves its own Trac.

Oh, I forgot the most important feature request: to make the quick-post box on the P2 frontpage identical to QuickPress from the Dashboard.
