link category title is centre aligned

i just upgraded to v 1.5

can someone plese help me with this?

i use a custome theme, which uses three files: index.php, comment.php and style.css

i want the category titles to be left aligned how should i do so? i read that wp uses the default pages for themes which have a certain page missing.

also i notice that any changes that i make to the #menu tag in the style.css file has no effect on the design. i want to reduce the top padding , one more time, how can i do so?
