• Web page link not coming back after it’s deleted.

If I make a web page dotcom/dog/ and then delete it and then lets say sometime in the future I want to use that link again, but WordPress won’t make the original link again “dotcom/dog/”

    Instead it makes “dotcom/dog-1/ dotcom/dog-2/ dotcom/dog-3/”

My trash bin is empty. How do I get the original link back?

do you have an image file with the name “dog”?

No I do not, just checked.

In that case, it should let you reuse the slug. Is example.com/dog a 404?

Now it goes back to my homepage.

Now it goes back to my homepage.

Do you have any plugin that may be “catching” deleted pages/posts and redirecting their slugs? Can you share your list of active plugins if you’re not sure?

I have another problem, I have a link that is .ORG/dog/ My wordpress is running on .COM, not .org

The .ORG/dog/ link has my last post on it, before I deleted it.

How did the page end up as a .ORG? I do have a .org but it’s not in use.

The rest of my pages are .com

    Before proceeding any further:

    1) Please provide the actual .com and .org addresses, so we can dig into this further for you.

    2) Do both addresses belong to you?

    Thread Starter maybandy

    (@maybandy)

Yes they they both belong to me. The .org has never been used, its redirected to the .com

    policecrimes.com

    policecrimes.org

Both domains are redirecting to a YouTube video titled “Police and FBI Don’t Want To Be Filmed Military Training – Brenham Texas” at my end.

Both sites resolve to the same address and point to a host in Australia.

    /dog/ returns a 404.

    Request URL: https://policecrimes.com/dog
    Request Method: GET
    Status Code: 404 Not Found
    Remote Address: 103.127.41.94:443
    Referrer Policy: strict-origin-when-cross-origin

If you add a new page or post and explicity set the slug to “dog”, does it complain?

    Thread Starter maybandy

    (@maybandy)

    Sorry the actual links are:

    policecrimes.com/police/

    policecrimes.org/police/

    Wordpress should not be .org

OK, so the redirect is coming from WP:

    Request URL: https://policecrimes.com/police/
    Request Method: GET
    Status Code: 301 Moved Permanently
    Remote Address: 103.127.41.94:80
    Referrer Policy: strict-origin-when-cross-origin
    Connection: Keep-Alive
    Content-Type: text/html; charset=UTF-8
    Date: Wed, 29 Jun 2022 03:48:04 GMT
    Keep-Alive: timeout=5, max=100
    Location: https://policecrimes.com/
    Server: Apache
    Transfer-Encoding: chunked
    X-Redirect-By: WordPress

Do you have any redirection plugins installed?

    Thread Starter maybandy

    (@maybandy)

These are the only plugins I’ve used.

    All in One SEO Pro
    MonsterInsights
    PDF Embedder
    Site Kit by Google
    Wordfence Security

I have nothing redirecting the page .com/police/ The page is a .org now.

Status Code: “301 Moved Permanently,” how is this possible? I’ve never had WordPress on a .org site. How is it changing the .com to .org?

    It does not mean your site has anything to do with wordpress.com;

This may be a plugin or theme conflict. Please attempt to disable all plugins, and use one of the default (Twenty*) themes. If the problem goes away, enable them one by one to identify the source of your troubles.
