Link pages to posts, menu's and images in highlights

    At the moment I am adapting the book rev lite version in a mamp database before I will migrate everything to a server and domain.

    Unfortunately I seem to have some issues with the template. I am not a WP specialist but also not a newbie, so it might be sth extremely simple I am just missing. Worst case scenario I need to install it again, but we will see…

    1. I have created 4 menu items now (pages) that are in the primary header (the lower bar below my blog name), but for some reason they show -except for the Home- all in the top bar too. But for now I want to keep that top bar empty and as soon as I have filled it with reviews I want to create a top 10 or top sellers or something like that. How do I do that?
    If I look at ‘navigation’ it speaks of two menu’s and primary head says menu (like it is supposed to, since under menu I have all my pages and for the other it is on select). Do I need to create another menu with an empty menu (like no pages there) and select that one for Top bar?

    2. Secondly, I have created those four pages. Home speaks for itself. Then there is the about me, also not a problem. But the other two are meant for two separate things, books and artwork. And I want to be able to link the specific posts to those menu items/pages. And in the future I might make an extra menu-item. I have added categories (books/art) and linked those to my test reviews, and when I click on the word book now on the item post itself it shows up in a book section. But… Only if you click on the word books under the post (for example in the highlight on home), it will show up on a page called books but if you click directly on the primary header menu bar you get on the empty books page with no featured book reviews at all.

    3. Also, on the home I have displayed slider, latest reviews and highlight of the day, but with the last two I do not get images, even though images are seen in slider and when you open a post. Do I need to address that in a different way?

    4. If possible in any way I would like to disable comments (I think I already did), and also get that little air quote balloon on the book image gone or under every post no reaction possibility or balloon.

    I know it is a lot, but I would be very grateful for some help.

    Ok, with the highlight I have been able to get the images now, I see where I went wrong. And perhaps with latest reviews it is only text. But the rest still stands ??

    Can you please update me again on what are the issues with the theme?
    Also, for the images that do not get displayed, put them in Featured Image.

    Hi Alexandra,

    I figured out some things but not all of them:

    1. On home, for the highlight of the day the page keeps showing an empty default title underneath the reviews I have already made as test. Doesn’t matter how many I add. Don’t know how to get rid of that. Also: would maybe prefer to keep highlights to just one book or max 3. Where do I adjust that?

    2. I guess seeing all featured reviews in a certain category is a pro-thing, because I still can’t link my category book to my menu book (I have solved the issue with top bar and primary header). I can only type one text there, but that is it for the menu content.

    3. For some weird reason I don’t get to see the headers for either latest reviews or highlight of the day. Like you can see in your demo the highlight of the day block is called Product reviews. Mine is called highlights, but you don’t see that. The names for Tag cloud, archive and calendar and search do show. Really weird.

    4. I have the plugin/widget top products, but the grades are not lining up neatly. They show under the title instead of next to it or sometimes even a little underneath the actual widget under the line (I placed this widget on the right side of the page).

    5. Also, when I open up one of the categories to show all those specific reviews the entire right side is a complete mess with tags being overlaid on top of other widgets. I have not adjusted any css settings yet since I have not figured out yet what is what.

    6. Comments are still disabled in some places and not in others. How to adjust? I basically only want comments for the specific reviews to get some interaction.

    Sorry for the long list. I love the template, but there are a few things I keep running into.

    Oh, I actually forgot to add number 7. For some posts I have two categories. Say I have a book review, then it will be in both category books and in review (since I will also announce upcoming books and that will get category books and news).

    But having done that, it looks really weird under the title of the review:
    DECKS , REVIEW

    And when it comes to the Latest Article Carroussel/Block it looks even weirder: you have that colored block with the title of the last review and then you see this:

    BOOK TITLE
    BOOKS
    ,

    REVIEW
    date

    i would, as you might expect, very much like to get rid of all that white space and have DECK, REVIEW (or perhaps DECK/REVIEW)
    And in the block:
    BOOKS,
    REVIEW and preferably next to each other.

    I use double categories because there is a difference, but also because I have a menu with books and a menu with news and they need to be separate, even though I sometimes have news about books. This goes for my other reviews (or news) about artwork too. But I still want to show *all* reviews in the slider and not just books or artwork or news. Hence the double links.

    It seems like I am not happy with it, but I think your theme is awesome. Such a clean, great template. I just have some specific quirks ;-).

    Hi,

    Unfortunately the theme doesn’t support this customization and as much as I would love to help with some custom code, this is beyond the support offered for the free products, which consist in bug fixing and theme documentation.

    I understand that some of them (when I ask: how can I adjust to x, y or Z), but most of them actually *are* bugs.

    6. Comments are still disabled in some places and not in others. It seems normal that when I enable you should be able to comment everywhere and vice versa.

    So, I will figure out any code I want to adapt myself, but the problem is that some things in the template aren’t working properly. Especially 3, 4 and 5.

    I hope now that I have removed the ‘how can I adjust’, you are able to help me.
