    Hi,

    I’m running WordPress 6.0.1.

I want to link to a certain Youtube page but it embeds instead. I’ve tried putting the link on its own line, putting it on the same line as other text, hyperlinking plain text and writing a custom html block. Whatever I do it still tries to embed.

Is there a way to block WordPress from trying to embed certain links?

    Thanks very much,
    David

  • I can not understand the behavior in my case. As you described, I took a paragraph block, put text in it and a YouTube link at the end of the text. First I didn’t link it – then it was also output just as unlinked in the frontend. Linking the Youtube link does not change anything.

If I just paste the Youtube link into a new block, the Gutenberg editor automatically recognizes what it is and embeds it.

And this is where you can start: as soon as the video preview is visible, change the block to “paragraph”. And it’s a simple link to the Youtube video.

Thanks for the reply threadi. From your post I managed to work out that the ‘Responsive Lightbox & Gallery’ plugin I was using was causing the issue. I changed to a different lightbox plugin and now WordPress works as expected.
