I’m getting a fatal php E_ERROR when trying to import a csv file containing just 2 users, as reported a few minutes ago. But I noticed that the “Send email” option had a link to show the email template gave a 404, and wondered if that might be related. But then I tried the free testing site, and the link there (shown above) also gives a 404. This seems like a pretty basic flaw in the plugin. If the link did work, would it simply display the template, or is it intended to allow modification of the template?

Maybe you have not activated this option in “Mail options” tab:

Enable mail templates:Do you want to enable mail templates??If you activate it, a new option in the menu will be created to store and manage mail templates, instead of using only the next one.

But this link should not be shown if “Mail templates” are not activated.

Thanks for your feedback I will fix it.

The problem was not the one I was telling you about. By including internationalization in that chain, the link had been lost.

The link should take you (it will in the next version I just fixed it) to the email options tab.

Thanks for the warning. You will see it solved in the next release.

I just updated to 1.27.7, and indeed that link does now open the Mail options tab. So I set the options to Activate automatic email when creating a user or changing passwords. And I also checked the box to enable email templates, as shown in this screen capture: https://drive.google.com/file/d/1v4IhgmeUCF9MuQUjDc0FlLqrz8Czgp6a/view?usp=sharing

However, adding a user does not send email (or at least it never arrives).

And the description for enabling email templates says “If you activate it, a new option in the menu will be created to store and manage mail templates, instead of using only the next one.” I don’t see any such option being added.

Oops, I now see that there is a new item in the left navigation bar of the admin page called “Email templates”. It has All and Add new sub-options. I had expected the menu item to be added to the Mail options tab rather than the main admin navigation stripe. “All” does not show the default template from the Mail options tab. And it’s not clear how to select a particular template for use when importing…

Yes, surely the email is sent but it never arrives (do you have your site connected to an SMTP to ensure email deliverability?)

You can select this email template from a list in “Mail options” tab.

And yes, there are many things to improve the usability of this plugin. It’s a small personal project that has grown somewhat haphazardly adding a lot of functionality and not taking care of the user experience.

It’s a free project, for which I don’t receive income but it takes me many hours and I find it hard to take care of issues like UX.

Other emails, like the one to admin saying a new user was added, or a password was changed, do arrive in a reasonable timeframe, so it’s not a configuration issue. As far as I can tell, emails don’t arrive when one of two problems I reported happen:

    1. the email address has a gmail-style “+” in it, causing an error to be reported on the Import page (https://www.ads-software.com/support/topic/cannot-import-email-with-gmail-syntax-and-poor-error-message/)
    2. the Melapress Login Security plugin is activated, causing a critical error to be reported on the Import page, and an email to be sent containing a traceback (https://www.ads-software.com/support/topic/uncaught-error-class-ppm_wp_history-not-found/)

You’ve said the second problem is resolved in the next update, which I haven’t yet seen. I think the first problem still occurs, but I want to wait until I install the update to see if it still happens. That one seemed to be a little flakey, where sometimes I could reproduce it and sometimes I couldn’t.

BTW, I absolutely understand and appreciate the effort you put into the fabulous support you provide for this valuable free plugin!

The second problem is solved (will be solved in the next version) and the first one does not exists on my dev sites (I have 3 different ones).

I would need to check what’s happening in your site but this issue is out of the scope of this support.
