If the map is embedded there are google fonts called from the remote server, which is not allowed without user opt in. The alternative to only show simple text does not exploit the full potential of the plugin. A third option to let users click on a link that opens a new window with the map would be a safe solution

    Hi,
So you are suggesting an optional ?taget=_blank“ to open a new window whenever someone would want to open a map for the given text?

It would be perfect, if the text that is suggested by the geolocation can be edited. Sometimes google has strange expressions for simple locations

Well, I could think of an alternative text if that would help you?
“text to display instead of location-text from provider“ (in case provided)

    Hi Georg,
one more thing: I am currently working on OSM implementation for the plugin. Currently, you need GoogleMaps account incl. some features that are potentially cost intensive for some people. Therefore, I am working on open street maps.
Once that is done, one can use a local tile proxy (also a plugin) so that all tiles are locally pulled (tradecraft is there is additional space needed and it is initially slower since tiles need caching) and result in no tracking capabilities for the tile provider or is/css source since it will always be ?your website“ that does the external requests.

Since there was no reply, I consider the issue to be solved and that you are mostlikely waiting for OSM to come up.

Hi, today I released the OSM version. I am still working on the proxy-usage (final steps) but am confident that it will work according to GDPR/DSGVO.

Since late yesterday, the OSM version to fully comply with GDPR/DSGVO in terms of no outbound calls for visitors is available. This functionality is possible, if you also install the OSM tile proxy as described on the plugin page. However, that is only applicable for visitors. People that create/maintain posts/pages and use the Geolocation feature will still have to consume an external service as this is needed for geocoding and reverse-geocoding, i.e., for translating GPS coordinates into a readable name and vice versa.

Let me know if that suits your requirements and if there is still anything missing or if there’s is also something that needs my attention.
