linkbacks, how do I track

I’ve done a bunch of searches for this and tried it a couple of times and always get errors. Is there a good source for figuring out what to enter or for doing this in an automated fashion? Does it matter what browser I am using?

Can anyone give an example of how to get this done in Safari?
