Linking
-
Hi there,
1. From the screenshots for this plugin, when you hover over an amazon link it will begin with target.georiot -> is there anyway to avoid this? I want it to simply change the id based on geo location.
2. What will this do to existing affiliate links set up under just one id, in both the long affiliate link style, and the shortened amzn.to links?
Thanks!

Hello!
Thank you for contacting us, those are both great questions.
To answer your first question, unfortunately we do not support a way to avoid the target.georiot appearing when you hover over the link. One way around this would be to write your own “On hover” JavaScript or CSS event in order to change what is shown when you hover over the links on your site. There are quite a few examples of this around the web.
For your second question, the Amazon Link Engine is not able to honor the affiliate ID that is already in a link. In order to affiliate these links, you will need to sign up for a GeoRiot account, add your affiliate tokens to the dashboard, and connect the ALE using your GeoRiot API key and secret. Once you have done this, we will automatically add the appropriate affiliate ID based off of the country that your user is coming from, to ensure that you get the affiliate commissions you deserve. This will work for both long raw URLs as well as the amzn.to links.
I hope that helps to answer your questions, but please feel free to reach out if you have any others at all!
Cheers,
-JoeyOk great thank you!
Regarding the second question, if you choose to do nothing, will it affect existing affiliate links?
Additionally, I’ve been reading that there is a way to increase the cookie length to 90 days, is this possible?
Thanks again.
Those are both great questions as well!
For the first question, if you choose to do nothing, the Amazon Link Engine will still globalize all of your links, so your users will have a better user experience, however, your existing affiliate parameters within the link will be overwritten by GeoRiot’s house parameters. To earn these affiliate commissions, you will have to sign up for a GeoRiot account and add your affiliate parameters to the dashboard, which will allow the ALE to pull in your parameters and add them to the link.
In answer to your second question, there are some plugins available that allow you to create links that automatically add that item to the user’s cart. If the user then purchases that specific item within 90 days of adding it to their cart, you will still earn a commission. The Amazon Link Engine, however does not allow you to do this, simply because Amazon has expressed concerns with using this method in the past. The ALE simply sends the user to the product page where they can then add it to their own cart.
Does that help to answer your questions?

Hi there,
Thanks for your replys, I have not been able to get back to this for a while, but I’m still looking for a suitable amazon link localizer plugin.
I’ve gone back to experimenting with yours, and have noticed that you use your own affiliate ID as default, are you allowed to do this?
Secondly, I slightly misunderstand your first answer to my question regarding affecting existing links. Could you please tell me what you mean by add tokens to the dashboard.
Hi,
Sorry you’re finding it difficult. To simply localizes existing and future links, all you’ll need to do is install the plugin.
However, if you want to use your affiliate IDs, you’ll need to follow the installation instructions to create a GeoRiot account and sync it to your plugin. Otherwise we won’t know which affiliate IDs to use for your links. That’s also what I meant by “adding your tokens to the dashboard.” We also have a short video which explains that process as well.
As for using our own, yes – we make sure to make that obvious in our documentation and notes that by default we will use our house parameters unless you give us yours, which helps us keep the lights on. We have a great relationship with Amazon and they are okay with this as well, however – as soon as you add your own parameters (by following the instructions mentioned above), we will always use yours instead.
I hope that helps but let me know if there’s anything else I can answer.
Sorry, I’ve just added all my api keys and under the affiliate tab, added in my global IDs and found that it’s now converting existing links. Is this contrary to what you said earlier? Or by token ID you just meant adding the affiliate id to the backend?
If not, then this plugin is doing exactly what I want! Thanks!
One other thing, as previously mentioned, is the target.georiot link preface when hovering over the links with the plugin activated. I’m curious to know if in your opinion this will have adverse effects on those looking to click on the links? Thoughts?
If that was eliminated, this plugin would be an utter winner for me and I’d install it on every site i own!
Thanks again.
Hi there,
Sorry – it looks like my previous reply went through right before yours did. ??
Just to reiterate – adding your affiliate IDs is the same as adding your tokens, and it looks like you were able to do that.
As for the target.georiot.com link on hover, we have not heard or seen any issues with that affecting clicks. All of our users do watch their clicks very closely, and would let us know if there was a drop in clicks due to the change. However – so far we haven’t seen any issues with it, and the localization of links does show an increase in affiliate revenue for those who have enabled it.
Let me know if that helps or if there’s anything else we can answer. Thanks!
That’s perfect thank you.
Yeah, just confused there at the beginning since it said that just installing the plugin localizes IDs – and I was just asking if doing everything on the backend, and having the plugin activated changed existing links. Or whether you had to install the plugin, do the backend, and then re-add the amazon links for them to be localized.
Great, if you’ve had no negative feedback from the domain extension then I’ll also monitor it closely and let you know if there’s any drops.
Finally, (sorry last two questions!) what is the ‘links’ tab about, and the ‘genius’ links?
Also, I have about 3500 clicks per month, so I’d have to pay extra, do you work out the % or is it a flat $10 as soon as you go over 1000 clicks.
Thanks again for your swift support!
My pleasure!
The “Links” page and Genius Links are another one of our tools to create something we call “intelligent” links. Where the Amazon Link Engine plugin will automatically find all Amazon links on your page and localize them for you, you can use Genius Links to that functionality a step further.
For example, if you’re promoting a new app that’s available for iOS, Kindle, and Android devices, you could create a single Genius Link that automatically routes each iOS user (iPad, iPhone, etc) to that app in their local iTunes storefront, all Kindle devices to the app in their local Amazon store, and all Android devices to Google Play.
We have a blog entry that goes into more detail about the links, but the basic gist is that you can create any link that automatically routes your traffic based off their device type, operating system, country, and even date of click.
As for the pricing, it is $10 for every bucket of 10,000 clicks after that first 1,000. So you get 1,000 clicks for free each month, then get buckets of 10k clicks for $10 USD.
Hope that helps!
Great!
Appreciate the support guys, thanks.
Of course! Let us know if there’s anything else we can answer for you as well.
