Linking Embedded Images to External URLs – Please Help

I need to link images embedded into posts to external URLs. Currently, the URLs I insert are appended by the root URL.

Example: https://www.RootURL.com/https://www.The-URL-I-Provide.com

I’ve searched for a setting that might govern this behavior with no luck — can someone point me in the right direction?
