• I am trying to link gallery images to other pages in my site. As I understand it, this is not a native function in Elementor, so I’ve installed the plug in WP Gallery Custom Links. However, that is not working. Not only does the link not work, but the “hand” symbol when hovering is not there.

I’ve been trying several layout variants in addition to a gallery to see what might work. The relevant one for this question is the gallery at the top of the page, and the test image – the one where I’ve created a link – is the last one in that gallery.

(For linking images in general, do I also need that plug in? If I recall correctly, when I was doing previous sites without elementor, I was able to natively create links for images in the Media Library without needing the plug in.)

    Thank you.

The page I need help with: [log in to see the link]

  • Could you clarify a little. I see the images at the op of your site. Do you want clicking those to show a larger image or take you to another page? If you click on the image in Elementor there is a link option near the bottom. You can add the link to another page there. You mentioned Gallery images, based on your home page why use a gallery as oppose to just self defined sections and columns?
Sorry if I misunderstood your question.

Hi LesTexas60. Sorry for any confusion. I’ve now deleted all but the gallery, so that may help clarify. And, unrelated, I think, the links are now working. No idea why. The only thing I did was re-enter the URLs for the links in the images in the Media library. (I’ve only set 2 of them so far. More maybe working when you read this.) But the problem couldn’t have been the links themselves because I wasn’t even getting the “hand” symbol before.

My goal is to have each image link open another page. And the reason I didn’t want to use columns with individual images is that that wasn’t formatting well when viewed on a phone.

I do have 2 remaining issues as well as a question that perhaps you have pointers about:

    1. Though I have borders set to none (in the gallery style settings), the image borders remain. Curiously, it sometimes doesn’t show borders when I’m in the edit page, but does show borders in the uploaded page.

    2. How can I get the columns to space more closely together? I want the images to be closer together, not spread over the section width. I’ve tried (1) playing with Column Width when editing in layout via the edit button accessed at upper center of the gallery. I’ve tried setting it to blank or to any number. There is no difference visible in the edit window and the number doesn’t stick in the box by column width. I also tried (2) editing the Columns Gap accessed via the edit tab after clicking the upper center 3 dots. (And a related, probably dumb, question: what is the difference between the edit pages accessed via those two methods?)

    3. And a more minor question. Is there a way to have the captions flow into two lines so they fit within the width of the image? Would just be visually better.

    Thanks!

So I’m still having problems with getting images in a gallery to link to other pages. Layout questions aside – will hold on those for a moment – I thought I had this working using the plugin WP Gallery Custom Links. And it seemed fine, but now when I try to edit the gallery, I get an error message “Sorry, the content area was not found in your page.” This didn’t happen at first. I’m not sure why it started.

    The page is https://davidbergmaneco.com/architecture/

When I deactivate the plugin, the error disappears but, of course, the images no longer link to those pages.

I have all other plugins deactivated.

Does anyone know how to achieve my goal here? It seems there is no way within Elementor to create those links, even though it can done in a “regular” gallery without Elementor. Is that correct?

Is there a way perhaps to do this by adding custom code, presumably by editing the code in WordPress? I’m not fond of messing with code – I’m not that confidant – but would try it if that’s the only option.

Here’s an example of what I am looking to do (not a page of mine):

    Thanks

(ps – should I start this as a new thread since it’s now a couple of weeks old?)
