linking images with 'previous' and 'next' buttons

  • Hello,
    I have some images of my work that are on my page and by default when you click the thumbnail it opens the image in a new window. I like this but I have to close the image to select another. It would be great if I could have a ‘next’ and ‘previous’ button on that enlarged image to view the other images.

    I don’t know much about editing the themes in wordpress, can anyone tell me what code I need to change? many thanks
