Linking pdf's to tables?

I have tables organized by months in pages. What is the best way to link pdf documents to the table cells so that the pdf opens up either in the same window or a new one… i tried uploading a pdf document in the media library and linking it to the table, but that only opens up a page where you have to click on the document name to open it… Is it possible to have the document open directly from the link with an option to download?
